Project Description
San Francisco really got going when gold was discovered by a U.S. citizen in 1848. By 1849 the population exploded with men from around the world traveling to California with dreams of striking it rich. Few women made up the early population. But that didn’t stop them from pursuing their dreams of a more inclusive city no matter someone’s gender, age, class, ethnicity or citizenship. They are the dream makers of early San Francisco.
